The classic era of rock-n-roll music, from 1955-1969, is the music of dating, courtship, and love. The lyrics of many of its songs represent some of the greatest love poetry ever written.

But the rock music of the Sixties divides into two distinct periods. 1960-1964 still reflects the values and mores of the Fifties. 1965-1969 is the psychedelic era.

The psychedelic era brought social unrest and change. It was a time of hallucinatory drugs, free love, and anti-war protests. The music underwent a profound change, but couples still fell in love to rock-n-roll music.
