The classic era of rock-n-roll music, from 1955-1969, is the music of dating, courtship, and love. The lyrics of many of its songs represent some of the greatest love poetry ever written. |
But the rock music of the Sixties divides into two distinct periods. 1960-1964 still reflects the values and mores of the Fifties. 1965-1969 is the psychedelic era. |
The psychedelic era brought social unrest and change. It was a time of hallucinatory drugs, free love, and anti-war protests. The music underwent a profound change, but couples still fell in love to rock-n-roll music. |
